Voice of Democracy Essay Contest

Katelyn Campbell, a 7th grade student at Gatesville Junior High, was the recent winner of the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest (Patriot’s Pen contest) sponsored by the VFW Post 9191 in Killeen.

Established in 1947, the Veterans of Foreign Wars “Voice of Democracy” essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves regarding a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 64,500 students across the country to enter to win a share of more than $2 million in educational scholarships through the program.

The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college, or vocational/technical school.
