In time of need: Gatesville man donates kidney

The saying that “I would do anything for you” was proven to be true after Gatesville Police offi cer Damian White donated his kidney in a six-way kidney transplant to save his decade-long friend and former training officer Shane Kieltyka.

Kieltyka, a former Coryell County District Attorney investigator and Copperas Cove police offi cer, suffered from IGA Nephropathy, a pre-existing condition that caused him to go into active kidney failure.

Kieltyka needed a transplant and was placed on the national donor list. In the meantime, he was placed on dialysis which he remained on for two years.

Kieltyka discovered the first signs of the disease when he was 18 years old and in the Navy.
