Tigers, Eagles earn victories

Two of Coryell County's three Class A football teams won their games on Sept. 9, which included the Oglesby Tigers improving to 3-0.

The Tigers outscored the Covington Owls, 50-34. Hunter Walter led Oglesby in passing, completing seven of eight throws for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His longest throw of the night was a 70-yard completion.

Kyler Fossett led the Tigers with 218 yards rushing on 18 carries and scored five touchdowns for OHS.

Johnny Gomez was Oglesby's leading receiver with three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown, with Fossett hauling in two receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Fossett also led the defense with 12 tackles and an interception, followed by Joel Gonzales with 11 and Brodie Fisher, Jack Hendricks and Johnny Gomez with nine each. 

Oglesby is next scheduled to face the Kopperl Eagles on the road at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16.

JONESBORO 52,

ST. STEPHEN’S EPISCOPAL 37

The Jonesboro Eagles bounced back from their first loss of the year with a 52-37 win over St. Stephen's Episcopal of Austin on Sept. 9. Jonesboro improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Nathan Forrest led the Eagle passing attack with two completions for 74 yards and two touchdowns, while Caleb Christel added a completion for 14 yards.

Layden Nichols led Jonesboro rushers with 118 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, followed by Christel with 69 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, Jacob Cisneros with 57 yards and a touchdown on four carries, Tyler Wilson with 54 yards and a touchdown on one carry, and Jaden Domel with 34 yards on four carries.

Demarcus Acoff caught two passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns for JHS, while Garrett Young had one catch for 14 yards.

Jacob Cisneros had 12 tackles for the Eagles, with Garrett Young compiling 11 tackles and an interception, Jaden Domel adding nine and a fumble recovery, and Tyler Wilson adding six tackles.

Jonesboro will travel to Greenville Christian for a 2 p.m. Sept. 17 contest. 

CHEROKEE 60, EVANT 6

The Evant Elks fell to 0-3 with a 60-6 loss to Cherokee on Sept. 9. Stats for the Elks were not available.
