Wrestling team expects competitive field

Gatesville High School’s wrestlers will get a chance to mix it up with some top state talent in the Bryan ISD Doc Hess Classic, Dec. 18 in Bryan.

The Bryan tournament will have 40-50 schools competing.

“In years past there were more than 1,000 wrestlers competing in this tournament,’’ said GHS wrestling coach Robert Clater Jr. “We have had a pretty good start to the season. The team as a whole has greatly surpassed expectations.’’

The team has had multiple first-place winners in tournaments — both boys and girls.

“We have also been challenged, having a losing record in the Harker Heights tournament,’’ Clater said. ”As good as we have done, we can improve even more.’’
