Jonesboro High School’s trip to West Texas last week had a little bit of everything including a big football performance from Nat Hilliker.
The senior receiver/linebacker is known for his receiving ability.
He ran loose in the Eagles’ 70-26 victory over Turkey Valley. He had six catches for 175 yards and scored on five of the receptions.
“Since I’ve been here, that’s the most (receiving touchdowns in a game),” Jonesboro coach Eddie Gallegos said.
The next-to-last non-district game for the Eagles was played at Trent, just 20 miles down I-20 from Abilene.
Trent has one of the nicer six-man stadiums in Texas.
“It was a great surface,’’ Gallegos said. “It felt like West Texas with a little wind, rain and lightning. Our trip had a little bit of everything.’’
The Eagles will face rival Evant Oct. 15 on the road to open District 15-1A, Div. I play.
That’s when six-man football fans can expect some big hits. The Coryell County neighbors bring out the best in each other.
The Hornets opened District 9-4A, Div. II with Salado on Oct. 8. The toughest test to date should be Nov. 15 when they take on China Spring, a perennial playoff team in central Texas.
