The Gatesville Lady Hornets overcame the Stephenville Honeybees, 15-11, in a slugfest on April 19 as the team looks to keep momentum going with the regular season drawing to a close.

GHS, which is in third place in District 6-4A, has earned a playoff berth and was set to close out the regular season on Friday, April 22, with a home game against the Glen Rose Lady Tigers. In their first district clash earlier this year in Glen Rose, the Lady Hornets upended the Lady Tigers 13-5.

Coached by Andrea Holdbrook, in her first year in Gatesville, the Lady Hornets played a tough non-district schedule to help the team prepare for strong district competition. While the Lady Hornets are 8-15-2 overall, their district record is 4-3.

The win over Stephenville was the second straight victory for GHS.

According to MaxPreps, senior Kinsey Gardner is the team’s leading hitter with a .404 batting average, followed by junior Kaitlin Stuard at .391, junior Matti Robinette at .333, and freshman Kinley Gardner at .316.

Six other batters have an average of .200 or better for GHS, including senior Riann Tippit at .277, senior Cera Touchet at .273, freshman Raylee Glover at .255, freshman Madison Hester at .250, senior Bella Perry at.200 and freshman Grace Carothers at .200.

Stuard leads the team with a .500 on base percentage, Glover leads with two home runs, Hester has the top earned run average at 6.66 and Tippit has the top fielding percentage at .936.
