Lady Hornets fall to Lampasas

Posted

Gatesville High School’s Lady Hornets did not start District 6-4A play the way they wanted to Friday night, losing 88-23 to Lampasas (22-6 overall, 1-0 in district) at Sidney L. Pruitt Gymnasium in Gatesville.

GHS (4-13) had to move up five junior varsity players to the varsity for that game due to five players being out because of illness.

“They played hard and did what they could,” GHS head coach Ryan Ocheskey said.

Sophomore Taylor Coward led the Lady Hornets in points with 10 points. Coward was 6 for 10 on free-throw attempts and added a couple of field goals.

Ocheskey told his team after the game that they can learn and grow from this experience so they can come back stronger next time.

“These were valuable minutes for (them),” Ocheskey said.

Ocheskey gave his insights on what he expects from Brownwood in this Friday’s district contest.

“(Brownwood) is going to be in a two-three zone they’re going to pressure out,” Ocheskey said. “We just got to move the ball and take better care of it and see if we can make a few more shots.”

The Lady Hornets play their district rivals, the Brownwood Lady Lions (17-9 overall, 0-1 in district), on Friday. Tipp-off will be at 6 p.m. at the Brownwood High School Gym.
