Hornets warm up for home meet Sept. 18

Gatesville’s cross country teams showed well at Midway this week and carry momentum into the annual Gatesville Bill Bradley Invitational, Sept. 18.

Gatesville freshman Vania Martinez finished seventh in a time of 19:17.0 in the 3-mile Class 5A-6A Division at the Hewitt Kiwanis Midway Invitational cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 9 at the HOT Soccer Complex.

The varsity girls were sixth as a team.

Ella Perry of Killeen Harker Heights won in 18:19.3.

Gatesville’s  Carlo Martinez won his third race of the season for the Hornet boys. He edged out Maximus Austin of Eagle Christian Academy.

He clocked a 16:04.7 in the Class 1A-4A division.

Teammate Luis Macias was sixth in a time of 17:09.1.

The boys’ team was sixth overall.
