Hornets defeat Badgers, 15-4

Gatesville High School’s baseball team defeated District 6-4A opponent Lampasas on the 10-run mercy rule for the second time this season, as the Hornets cruised to a 15-4  victory on the road.

Th win was huge for the Hornets because it moved them back into the No. 2 spot in the district standings. The Hornets’ first win over the Badgers this season, in Gatesville, was 10-0 and also ended after five innings.

“We played with a lot of energy tonight,” GHS baseball coach Chase Smith said.” The dugout was rocking as it always is when we play Lampasas; the guys were into the game and having a lot of fun.”

The Hornets faced a 3-2 deficit coming out of the first inning but overcame it by scoring five runs in the second inning and four runs in both the third and fourth innings. After the first inning, the Badgers only managed one run, in the third inning.

Cayden Mata finished 3-for-4 at the plate, with three runs batted in while crossing the home plate three times. Camden Galindo was 1-for-2 with one RBI and three runs scored. Parker Allman was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored.

The Hornets improved to an 8-9 overall record, while their district record moved up to 3-2.

The Hornets were scheduled to have a rematch with the Badgers on Friday.
