Hornet soccer teams fall to Burnet

Chilling temperatures did not delay the District 18-4A boys soccer game on Friday as the Burnet Bulldogs edged the Gatesville Hornets 2-1 at Burnet High School.

Luis Macias scored the lone goal for the Hornets in their loss to the Bulldogs. The Hornets (6-3) stayed in the second spot in District 18, still only trailing Salado (10-0), which is in the first spot.

The Hornets played the Salado Eagles on Tuesday at Salado High School. Earlier in the season, Feb.4, the Eagles defeated the Hornets 3-1 at Tommy Davidson Field at McKamie Stadium. Gatesville has aspirations to notch the first loss on Salado’s district record.

LADY HORNETS

The Gatesville Lady Hornets fell by a 1-0 margin to the Burnet Lady Bulldogs in a District 18-4A girls soccer contest at Burnet High School.

Burnet (8-2) has now beaten Gatesville (6-4) twice this season in district play. On Feb. 1, the Lady Hornets were defeated on penalty kicks.

The Lady Hornets will play three of their last four games on the road to conclude the regular season. The Lady Hornets remained in the fourth spot in the district after the loss.

The Lady Hornets played the Salado Lady Eagles (8-2) at Salado High School on Tuesday. Earlier in the season, the Lady Eagles also topped the Lady Hornets,, 3-1 at Tommy Davidson Field at McKamie Stadium.
