Evant drops homecoming game; Elks open district with rival Eagles

 The Gordon Longhorns ran to a 58-14 mercy-rule victory to spoil the Evant Elks football homecoming Friday.

Evant (4-3) will host the rival Jonesboro Eagles this week, Friday, Oct. 15 in the District 15-1A, Div. I opener.

Evant will enter district on a two-game skid.

Quarterback Kenny Jones was six of seven passing for 124 yards to lead the offense. He hit Hunter White on a 79-yard score and also connected with Daniel Honea for a 40-yard score.

Workhorse White led the Elks on the ground with seven carries for 73 yards.

Other receivers were Canyon Smith with a 13-yard catch, Luis Arellano one for three and Edgar Morales one for one.

Arellano had one carry for three yards.

Leading the defense were Arellano with seven tackles followed by Daniel Honea with five, White four, Edgar Morales three and  Smith two.
