We are so sad to report the passing of our dear friend, Judy Vernon, on Thursday, May 5. Judy was a long-time visitor and supporter of the Pearl Cottage Bookstore, and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. A memorial service will be planned for her in Evant at a later date. Judy requested that memorials be made to the Pearl Cottage Bookstore in care of Linda Ray at 1771 CR 152, Purmela, TX 76566. What a blessing Judy was to the Book Cottage and continues to be. Her memorials will be used for the scholarship program. Please keep Judy’s family and friends in your prayers.

The annual Pearl Church of Christ Vacation Bible School begins on May 30 and goes through June 3 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Everyone is invited to attend and encouraged to bring lots of family and friends with you. The theme for this year is The Chosen—Let Us Be Fishers of Men. In case you like to plan ahead, here is a list of each day's theme for VBS:

Monday--USA or Red/White/Blue T-shirt for Memorial Day

Tuesday--The Chosen T-shirt day (will be given out at VBS to all who attend)

Wednesday--Tutu day/Cowboy day

Thursday--Hero T-shirt day

Friday--Camo/Kilt day

Of course, you can always wear whatever is cool and comfortable if you don't have theme day apparel. We just hope to see you there at our annual VBS and that you invite others, too.

The Pearl Cottage Bookstore would like to thank everyone who came out to visit/shop during the May 7 Bookstore Day. They reported visits by Ilene Mitchell and her mom, Bob and Ruth Ann Johnson, Jerry Pool, and Marilyn McDonald as well as a host of other friends, new and old. It was also reported that people still come in to “view” the Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Tiny, Turquoise Greeny, Stringy Bikini. It was asked for by name, and viewers were pleased to see that it is still in its frame in its assigned location (ummm) above the Christian Book Section—for now. Yes, I’m shrugging my shoulders.

The Flea Market/Junk in Your Trunk event was enjoyed by all attendants on May 7. It was great to have Chris Ray and his forging talent among the participants. Chris brought his equipment and made the Christian fish symbol out of old horseshoes while the customer watched. We hope he will come back again next month. Check out the pictures on the Pearl Community Center, Texas Facebook page to view Chris in the process.

This week’s Bible verse comes from I Thessalonians 5: 16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” NIV
