Pearl News for The Gatesville Messenger

Posted

November 24, 2021

This week, I made an informational and fun discovery about the birth of Kay Pruett from an old article in an Aug. 27, 1984, Gatesville Messenger. It was written by Jan Dworsky for the “Coryell Museum & Historical Center” page. It was so delightful that I just must share:

“Kay Pruett is also a long-time resident of Pearl and writes the articles, ‘News from Around Pearl’ which I enjoy very much. She was kind enough to agree to an interview. It was delightful to meet her and hear her stories about Pearl today and long ago.

Her parents were Henry Glenn and Laveail Ballard Hermann. Kay was born right in the middle of World War II and gasoline was scarce. Dr. Kermit Jones was coming from Gatesville on a horse to help with her birth. It had rained the night before and the creek was full and running fast. Dr. Jones hung on to his bag and let the horse swim the creek. He made it just in time for the delivery.”

Thank the good Lord that Dr. Jones braved the elements in time to make sure Kay entered this world safe and sound! She is so dear to me and to countless others. Just think, if Kay had never made it into this world, we would have had no Pearl Cottage Bookstore, no “partner in crime” for Linda Ray, no Russell or Michelle to do the heavy stuff and fulfill those partners’ visions, nor would we have had the dreaded bikini story! Kay may talk tough and put up a braver than brave exterior, but we all know that she is a softy with a generous, kind heart and a wonderful sense of humor. And, Kay knows that there’s no place like Pearl!

In other news…. The next two Pearl Bluegrass events and Pearl Cottage Bookstore days will be Dec. 4 and Jan. 1. What great ways to celebrate the holiday season right here in Pearl! Everyone is invited to attend and to bring your friends and family with you!

The three churches in Pearl all welcome visitors anytime they meet. The Pearl Community Fellowship Church meets at 9 a.m., the Pearl Baptist Church at 10 a.m., and the Pearl Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m.

Reminder: The Pearl Cemetery Association is still accepting donations to build a pavilion to protect attendees from the often-harsh weather conditions during interments and services. You may send a personal donation or a donation in memory of a loved one to Pearl Cemetery Association, c/o Linda Ray, 1771 CR 152, Purmela, TX 76566. If you have any questions, you can contact Linda at 254-865-9282. Thank you in advance for your support.

The closing Bible verses for this week come from Psalm 50:23 and John 3:16 (which we can never read often enough) — "The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies Me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God,” and “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

I hope and pray that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving whether giving thanks and enjoying a feast with family or serving others in their professions. Wherever you may be or whatever you may doing, God be with you all. Happy Thanksgiving!
