OJHS Tigers edge Gholson Wildcats, 20-19

The Oglesby Junior High Tigers football team was in a dog fight with Gholson Wildcats on Sept 22.

The young Tigers managed to pull out a 20-19 win over the bigger Wildcats. The Tigers scored first on defense when Wildcats fumbled the ball behind their own line of scrimmage, the ball was picked up by Aiden Oxford who raced 12 yards for a touchdown.

The PAT failed and the Tigers led 6-0 with 1:33 left in first quarter. Blayze Fisher kicked off for the Tigers and the Wildcats ran the ball all way back for the touchdown. They added the PAT making it a 7-1 Gholson advantage with 39 seconds left in first quarter.

Wildcats scored again on sweep right, PAT failed and Gholson led 13-6. Tigers got the ball back with 2:40 left in second quarter, Aiden Oxford broke through for a 15-yard touchdown run. Holdyn Goff added the PAT, making the score 13-13 at half.

With 1:26 left in the third quarter, Abram Shaw pitched the ball to Aiden Oxford, who raced around the right end for a 45-yard touchdown. Holdyn Goff added the PAT on run up middle making the score Oglesby 20, Gholson 13. Gholson scored again on a 25-yard run, PAT failed and Oglesby Tigers led 20-19 at end of third quarter.

The fourth quarter remained scoreless. Gholson had ball on the Tigers 10-yard line with eight seconds left in game, the big Wildcat back broke through line, but safety Holdyn Goff met him head-on for a game-saving tackle as time expired.

The offensive leader for the Tigers was Aiden Oxford, with 12 carries for 80 yards, and touchdown runs of 15 yards and 45 yards respectively. 

Holdyn Goff had nine carries for 25 yards, scored two PAT runs, was 2-for-5 passing for 25 yards, connecting with Abram Shaw for 8-yard pass for first down and a 17-yard pass to Kayson Campbell for another first down. 

Defensively for the Tigers, Aiden Oxford scored a touchdown by returneing a Wildcat fumble 12 yards. Aiden Oxford had one solo tackle and three assists. 

Holdyn Goff was top tackler for Tigers with 9 solo tackles including the game-saving tackle and 1 assist. 

Kayson Campbell had four assists. 

Javon Howard two solo tackles and one assist. 

Mason Marquezone had 1 solo tackle, and three assists. Mason also had several good blocks at center on offense. Blayze Fisher had one solo tackle.
