Oglesby Junior High Tigers beat Kopperl

The Oglesby Junior Tigers played host to the Kopperl Eagles on Sept 15 and the young Tigers defeated the Eagles 33-7 to improve their season record to 2-0 on the season.

The Tigers scored quickly, with Holdyn Goff starting the scoring on a 40-yard scamper, for a touchdown. Aiden Oxford added the PAT kick to make it a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers held on defense, and on the next series, quarterback Abram Shaw pitched the ball to Aiden Oxford, who outran defenders on a 50-yard TD run and the Tigers owned a 14-0 lead with 5:16 left in first quarter.

On the Eagles’ next series, they struck back with a 25-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 14-7.

On the Tigers’ next series, Goff darted 20 yards for a TD as they increased their edge to 21-7 with 4:55 left in the second quarter.

Again, on the Tigers’ next possession, Oxford took a pitch and raced 20 yards to paydirt as they stretched their advantage to 27-7 with 1:24 left in the half.

With 2:24 left in the game, the Tigers moved the ball down the field and Jayce Aarron took a handoff up the middle for five-yard TD run, as the Tigers increased their lead to 33-7.

Goff led all rushers on the night with seven carries for 114 yards, with TDs of 40 and 20 yards. He also was 1 for 1 passing, hitting a 25-yarder, bringing his total offense to 139 for the night. 

Oxford led the team in scoring for the second week in row, with touchdown runs of 50 and 20 yards, and ran for 86 yards on the night overall. 

Jayce Aarron rounded out the scoring with 5-yard touchdown plunge, securing the game for the Tigers. Kayson led the receivers with one catch for 25 yards. 

Defensive leaders included:

Kayson Campbell led on defense with two solo tackles, one quarterback sack for a 10-yard loss, nine assisted tackles, a fumble recovery and total of 11 tackles. 

Abram Shaw and Javon Howard tied for the most solo tackles with four each. Abram Shaw also had two assists, bringing his total to six tackles for the game. 

Aiden Oxford had three solo tackles, including a quarterback sack for a 12-yard loss, and four assists, for seven total tackles.

Holdyn Goff: two solo tackles, one assist; Jayce Aarron: three assists; Ranger Dalton: one solo tackle, three assists; Mason Marquez: four assists; Blayze Fisher: one assist. 

The young Tigers improved to 2-0 for year. They are scheduled to travel to Gholson on Thursday, Sept. 22 for a 6 p.m. contest against the Wildcats.
