Gatesville welcomes Pam Rudolph as the new director of the Gatesville Senior Center. Rudolph assumed the directorship on August 16. One of nine children, she was born and raised in Gatesville and attended local schools.

Before becoming director, Rudolph had a long history of geriatric care, family medicine and hospice work.

“My hope for the Gatesville Senior Center is to get more people involved and have them enjoy visiting the center following their retirement,” Rudolph said. She also discussed several new programs and services that will be coming to the center that will benefit those who visit. “We will start to have a Masters of Memory program that will be a six-week program on Mondays. It will help people identify why they’re forgetting things and will be presented by Coryell County Extension agent Donna Schwausch,” Rudolph said.

She also mentioned that Treadway Hearing Aid will be visiting the Senior Center once a month for those wishing to have their hearing tested. Their next visit is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. Rudolph also said that Coryell Health will be visiting once a month conducting educational seminars on health issues such as diabetes, kidney failure and many other topics.

In addition to the Meals on Wheels program which feeds about 46 people Monday through Friday, meals are also served at the senior center – “up to 15 people may show up on any given day,” Rudolph said. She also helps the Nutritional Supervisor, Geena Shock, with the daily meal preparation and sometimes helps to deliver the meals when they are short on volunteer drivers. The Meals on Wheels program also services Hamilton on Wednesdays.

“I want to get rid of the misconception that this is just a ‘senior’ center, anyone ages 50 and up can come and enjoy the facility,” Rudolph said.

She is the mother of three children, two daughters and a son, and has one grandchild.

The Senior Center is located at 208 N. Lutterloh in Gatesville. More information about the center and the many services and activities they offer can be obtained by calling 254-865-8234.
