Marie Barrows begins leadership role at GHS
Students and parents will be seeing new leadership at the high school as they begin the 2021-2022 school year.
The position of principal at Gatesville High School was recently filled by Marie Barrows who has been serving as assistant principal since 2019.
“With the high school renovation coming to a conclusion and the prospect of a more normal year with regard to Covid, she [Barrows] and the rest of the staff are excited about the coming school year. I am fully confident that Mrs. Barrows will do a superb job in her new role. The faculty and staff agree that she has already done a fantastic job,” said Dr. Barrett Pollard, GISD Superintendent.
Barrows, a former United States Army Captain, police officer and teacher, was selected this year to assume the role of GHS principal beginning in June. “When I transitioned from the Army at Fort Hood, I was working on both, my masters and teaching certificate, and started my teaching journey at Salado Junior High,” said Barrows. She had worked as a school liaison officer for three years at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and then taught in various districts while her husband, Jim, was still on active duty status with the Army.
