Local residents welcome evacuees
Once again, the city of Gatesville has proved that the heart of a small town runs deep.
As of press time, roughly 60 evacuees from the Houston area have come to seek refuge from Hurricane Harvey at a number of hotels in Gatesville.
“There’s 25-30 people staying at the Rodeway Inn alone,” said Cheri Shepherd, director of the City of Gatesville’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. “At this point, we don’t know how long the continuing needs [for evacuees] will last. We’re trying to take it one day at a time.”
