The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs awarded local non-profit Families in Crisis, Inc. a $529,650 Housing Stability Service Grant on July 23, according to a list provided by Governor Greg Abbott’s office.
Coryell County residents who are behind on mortgage payments due to the impacts of COVID could be eligible for assistance. To qualify:
-The property must be in Coryell, Bell or Lampasas counties
-The property must be your primary residence
-Your household must be at or below 80% Area Median Income
-Your mortgage is at or below 150% Fair Market Rent
-Your loan is from an eligible lender (rent to own or private loans are not eligible)
-The mortgage is in a first or second lien position
-The first lien mortgage was not funded with a federal, state or local government funds
The program will pay up to four months of past-due payments and two months of future payments.

Families In Crisis, Inc. was established in 1980 and serves survivors of family/sexual violence, veterans and their families and the homeless and at-risk for homelessness populations. Services include emergency safe shelter for survivors of family/sexual violence, transitional and permanent housing assistance, crisis intervention counseling, case management, 24-hour hotline, hospital accompaniment, provision of food, clothing, personal care items, and household items, support groups, life skills classes and information and referrals.
