Law Enforcement honors fallen Trooper
Personnel from local law enforcement agencies and fire departments gathered Thursday in Gatesville to pay tribute to a fallen Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper.
Law enforcement officers from DPS, the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office and the Gatesville Police Department joined firefighters from Gatesville, Flat, Levita and Turnersville fire departments for a prayer and moment of silence with their red and blue lights flashing at 1 p.m. Thursday in tribute to Trooper Chad Walker.
Before the tribute began, CCSO Chaplain Jim Hall delivered words of prayer in which he asked for blessing upon the Walker family and protection for all law enforcement.
Walker, 38, was stopping to assist a driver near Mexia around 7:45 pm. on March 26 when he was shot multiple times, according to a press release from DPS abouthte incident.
The injured Trooper was transported to Baylor Scott & White – Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Coryell County Sheriff Scott Williams said the loss of a fellow officer is especially tough, considering the close relationships built among officers.
