KGB program awarded $180k grant from state
The Keep Gatesville Beautiful program is one of ten cities throughout all of Texas to receive the Governor’s Community Achievement Award, which awarded a total of $2 million to winners for the 2021 competition. The grants are meant to be used for landscaping projects along local rights-of-way.
The ten cities chosen were each awarded a different amount based on the category they were in, differentiated by population size of each city. Gatesville competed in Category 5, which includes all Texas cities that participate in the Keep Texas Beautiful program with a population between 15,0001-25,000.
Cheri Shepherd, an organizer for the Keep Gatesville Beautiful program, said one of the biggest factors to overcome applying for this grant was to show how much Gatesville’s community actually does for such a small population.
