The Jonesboro Eagles and Oglesby Tigers football teams both earned district championships and will enter the playoffs on a roll after weekend victories to close out the regular season.

Jonesboro improved to 10-1 with a 63-0 win over the Evant Elks, while Oglesby improved to a perfect 10-0 with a 56-6 thumping of the Buckholts Badgers. Both games were moved to Thursday, Nov. 3, because of bad weather that had been in the weather forecast for last Friday.

Fossett paced the Tigers on the ground, running for 91 yards and four touchdowns on eight carries. Johnny Gomez ran the ball once for Oglesby — a 48-yard touchdown scamper.

Four Tigers caught one pass each. Brodie Fisher's reception went for 32 yards and a touchdown, Jack Hendricks caught one for 25 yards and a touchdown, and Johnny Gomez and Hunter Walter each caught a pass for 15 yards.

Nathan Forrest led the Eagles’ aerial attack, completing four of five passes for 87 yards and three TDs, while Caleb Christel completed one pass for 16 yards and a score.

Five Eagles scored rushing touchdowns versus Evant — Garrett Young, Jacob Cisneros, Caleb Christel, Demarcus Acoff and Luke Stephenson. Acoff was the leading rusher for JHS with one carry for 33 yards, while Layden Nichols ran the ball twice for 20 yards.

Four Eagles caught touchdown passes — Jaden Domel, Young, Acoff and Austin Massingill.

Nichols and Young led the Jonesboro defense with six tackles each, while Truett Foote and Acoff each had five tackles.

Jonesboro (10-1) is slated to host the Menard Yellowjackets (7-3) in the bi-district playoffs at 7 p.m. Thursday.
