Hornets take commanding lead in key match with Lampasas

Weather suspended play with Gatesville up seven to one and needing three wins to complete the team tennis competition Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Gatesville High tennis courts.

When play was suspended, Stormy Tatum as up 6-0, 4-0 at 40 love; Carlo Martinez was up 6-1, 2-2 in the second set.

Play will continue from where we left off on Monday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. 

Notching wins for the Hornets in doubles play were the No. 1 team of Slone Early and Ty Warren, 6-0, 6-0 over Shaw/Calk; Alex Scott/Carlo Martinez over Arellano/Vargues, 6-1, 6-1; and  Jesse Strange/Tyler Hutts over Champion/Ecker, 6-4, 6-2.

In girls’ doubles, Tatum/Julee Sun stopped Valdez/Valdez, 6-1, 6-3.

Anna Mitchell/ Callie Smith defeated Watson/Flores, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Bri Alexander/Kasey Fitzer defeated Starkey/Zapata, 7-6, 6-2.

The lone defeat was in mixed doubles. Olivia Walker/Dayne Zacha fell to Clements/Rogers. 6-7, 3-6.
