Hornets capture district tennis title

The Gatesville varsity tennis team captured their fourth straight district championship, fending off a challenge by the Lampasas Badgers, 10-9.

Whichever team earned 10 wins first in the contest captured the title, and Olivia Walker’s winning match put Gatesville over the top for the victory. Also earning wins for Gatesville were Ty Warren, Alex Scott, Slone Early, Carlo Martinez, Kasey Fitzer, Callie Smith, Madeline Fast and Abraham Almendariz. The Hornets are scheduled to face Decatur on Oct. 11 in a bi-district playoff match in Cleburne.
