Boys Track: Senior Carlo Martinez ran a school-record time of 9:14.83 to place 13th overall in the 3200 meters at this morning’s Texas Relays. Martinez, a University of Louisiana-Monroe signee, was competing against all classifications. He shattered his previous GHS record of 9:42.

Girls Track: Varsity totaled 76.5 points for a fourth-place finish at the Lorena Leopard Relays. Barrett Boyd doubled with gold in the pole vault (11'6") and 100 hurdles (15.34), while Vania Martinez was first in the 3200 (12:33). JV was fourth overall with 89 points.

Boys Track: Varsity scored 144 points to finish as runners-up at the Lorena Leopard Relays. The Hornets, who had won their first four meets of the season, earned gold in six events: Ashtyn Culley, 6'0" in high jump and 21'4" in long jump; Trent Ray, 143'9.5" in discus; Carlo Martinez, 1:57 in 800; Jastin Muegge, 5:06 in 1600; the foursome of Daniel Gonzales, Kason Herbelin, Tyler Shea and Mason Brizendine with a time of 3:39 in the 4 x 400 meter relay. JV won its division with 129 points.

Tennis: GHS ended up as co-champions in District 23-4A boy's tennis, while the Hornet girls finished second overall. GHS qualified five athletes for regional competition at the District 23-4A tournament. Slone Early secured his third-straight regional trip by winning the boys singles title, and the duo of Alex Scott and Ty Warren are headed back to regionals for the third straight season after winning the boys doubles trophy. On the girls' side, Callie Smith and Kasey Fitzer finished first and second in girls singles to advance as well. It marks the third year in a row that GHS has produced the top two regional qualifiers in girls singles. Preslea Edmond and Olivia Walker earned the third-place medal in girls' doubles and will advance as alternates. The 4A Region III tournament will be held April 11-12 at Bryan High School.

Track: GJHS results from the Lorena meet - eighth grade girls were seventh overall with 26 points, seventh grade girls were seventh overall with 21 points, eighth grade boys were sixth overall with 48 points, seventh grade boys were sixth overall with 49.5 points.

Track: GJHS results from Waco Connally meet - seventh grade boys won meet title with 174.5 points.  Other team results: Eighth grade girls were fourth with 82 points, seventh grade girls were third with 109 points, eighth grade boys were fourth with 100 points.  The Hornets' final meet will be the District 23-4A meet April 11 at La Vega.
