The Gatesville High School Student Council would like to welcome veterans and the public to join them at the 2021 Gatesville Independent School District Veterans Day Program to be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at McKamie Stadium.

The GHS Band will play “Armed Forces, On Parade” and “America the Beautiful,” and the GHS Choir will sing the National Anthem and “To Those Who Serve.” All GHS campuses will be involved in the program. Local dignitaries will also be on hand as veterans are honored.

The guest speaker will be Major General Richard F. Johnson, Commanding General, Division West, First United States Army, Fort Hood.

Johnson became the Commanding General at Fort Hood in December of last year. Johnson has received educational degrees from Salem State University, and the University of Massachusetts. In addition, he has attended 14 military schools. Over the course of his military career, Johnson has received numerous U.S. decorations and badges including the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Army Commendation Medal, to name a few.
