GISD dedicates bench in memory of fifth grade student killed in house fire

A bench dedication ceremony was held on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Gatesville Intermediate School in memory of 10-year-old Cheyenne Harrington who lost her life three days before Christmas last year in a tragic house fire.

The bench dedication ceremony was held in the foyer area of the Intermediate School with GISD superintendent, Dr. Barrett Pollard, in charge of the dedication.

The ceremony began with a greeting from Pollard, followed by a prayer from the student’s uncle, the Rev. Alfred Covey, who said that Cheyenne had “touched my heart.”

He continued to say that she had took a little platform with what she had and made a big change around her.

“We could all learn to do that,” Covey said.
