GHS wins cross country meet in Waco

Gatesville High School’s cross country program continued its string of success with a top finish by the boys in a 19-team field and a seventh-place finish for the girls in a 20-team field at the Waco Midway-Hewitt Kiwanis Club Invitational on Sept. 8 in Waco.

Vania Martinez won the girls division with a time of 12:13.

Carlo Martinez led the boys with a first-place finish and a time of 15:03, followed by Jastin Muegge who was seventh overall with a time of 17:10 and Abraham Almendariz who was 15th with a time of 17:31.

Gatesville will host the Bill Bradley Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17. The high school teams will begin running at 10 a.m., while the junior high teams will start at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Gatesville ISD course, near the GISD tennis courts.
