GHS’ Bryant, Hall compete at state powerlifting meet

Two Gatesville High School standouts participated in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s State Powerlifting Championships in Abilene on Friday, May 24. L.J. Hall and Zach Bryant, who are both juniors, qualified to lift at the state meet by finishing in the top two places in their weight classes at the regional meet in Gatesville HS on March 11.

L.J. Hall lifted in the 165-pound weight class. He set personal records at the state meet in both the squat (450 pounds) and bench press (340 pounds) and added a deadlift of 475 pounds on his way to an 18th-place finish with a total of 1,265 pounds. L.J. is a three-sport athlete at GHS (football, powerlifting and track) and is looking forward to an even better finish during his senior year.

Zach Bryant represented GHS at the state meet in the 308-plus weight class. Zach also set new personal records in both squat (655 pounds) and bench (385 pounds) and rounded out his day with a 500-pound deadlift for a 1,540-pound total, which earned him a 7th place finish overall. Zach also participates in football and track for the Hornets and will return for his senior year with high hopes of earning a medal at the state meet.
