Gatesville rezones former VFW property
The Gatesville City Council voted unanimously at their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27, to approve the first reading of an ordinance to revert the zoning of 1509 Golf Course Road from community facility back to its original status of residential single family.
The lot is the site of the former William Elmo Powell Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8230 that burned down in July of 2016.
The post recently sold the lot after losing its operational charter and merging with a VFW post in Copperas Cove.
The lot was originally zoned residential single family, but was rezoned in 1995 to community facility to allow for the VFW to operate.
A request was presented Aug. 5 to the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider rezoning the property.
