Gatesville ISD announces 2022 valedictorian, salutatorian

The Gatesville Independent School District recently announced their top honor graduates for the graduating class of 2022.


Rachel Conner, daughter of David and Elke Conner, has been named the valedictorian with the highest-grade point average (GPA) of 4.54.

Rachel is a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. She was a member of the varsity soccer team for four years and was named the 2022 District Defender of the Year. Rachel volunteered with youth soccer camps and is a Texas Bioscience Institute Ambassador.

She will be graduating on May 14 with an associate degree in multidisciplinary studies from the Texas Bioscience Institute at Temple College.

She plans on attending Texas Tech University majoring in cell and molecular biology. Rachel wants to earn a master’s degree in genetic counseling and become a genetic counselor.


Hailey Luensmann, daughter of Brian and Kandi Luensmann, has been named the salutatorian with the second highest GPA of 4.43.

She is the Senior Class president, Student Council president, National Honor Society president, Yearbook editor, FFA chapter president and Area VIII president. She was named Most Outstanding Student and Exchange Club Student of the Year 2022.

Hailey was Chamber of Commerce JR. Ambassador President and 2021 JR. Ambassador of the Year. She was a Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo, Coryell County 4-H Ambassador, and Coryell City 4-H Club vice president.

Hailey plans on attending Texas A&M University in the Business Honors program. She then plans on attending law school to become a corporate attorney.
