Former GPD officers indicted by Grand Jury
Tentative trial dates were set for two former Gatesville Police Department officers during a pretrial hearing on Monday, May 8 at the Coryell County 52nd District Court in Gatesville.
Christopher Cato and Ronald Schmidt have been indicted on two counts: tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and failure to report information relating to a case. The hearing was before a visiting judge, retired 368th District Judge Burt Carnes.
The Coryell County Grand Jury issued sealed indictments for both men in December 2018. The trial date for Cato will take place in August, while a November date was tentatively set for Schmidt.
The charges relate to incidents that occurred in the line of duty while Cato and Schmidt were officers with the Gatesville Police Department in late May 2017.
The indictments state that the officers were investigating a case involving the possible sexual assault of a minor when the incidents occurred.
