Flu epidemic impacts the county

These days it seems as if veryone is suffering from the flu, recovering from the flu, or coming down with the flu. The state, as well as the entire nation, is in the midst of a flu epidemic. Coryell County is no exception and experiencing one of the worst flu seasons seen in recent years. There are three infl uenza strains currently circulating in the county (Flu A H1, Flu A H3 and Flu B) with Flu A H3N2 causing the most severe infections. For the month of January,

Coryell Memorial Healthcare System reported 118 Influenza A and 44 Influenza B cases in Coryell Memorial Hospital and ER, 201 Influenza A and 87 Influenza B cases in Coryell Medical Clinic, and 20 hospital admissions tested positive for Infl uenza A and 4 for Infl uenza B. While Clifton Independent School District cancelled classes Jan. 31 – Feb. 5 due to widespread illness, Coryell County districts have fared much better to date
