EVANT ISD RECEIVES THREE NEW OFFICIALS

The Evant Independent School Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on Sunday, July 18, where they officially announced a new EISD superintendent, school principal and the Effective School’s Coordinator of the district.

SUPRERINTENDENT:

Dr. Brenda Martinez was named as the new EISD superintendent . She comes to Evant ISD from San Saba ISD, where she served as assistant superintendent for more than four years. Before that, Dr. Martinez was involved in campus leadership in Killeen ISD serving as a curriculum instructional specialist, assistant principal and principal. She recently completed her eighteenth year in public education. Her work spans from serving students and staff in elementary and secondary education, strong curriculum support and implementation background, administrative leadership coaching, the creation and implementation of a Pathway to Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program.

Her educational leadership background includes a Doctorate in Education in Organizational Leadership at Abilene Christian University, Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Tarleton State University, and Superintendent  Certification from Central Texas A&M University. Dr. Martinez is also a district leader representative on the Chief Academic Officer Council at The Texas Education Agency, a member of the Equity Assurance Panel for Educator and Administrator Certification Examinations, and is a member of the multiple administrative and leadership associations in Texas.

                Dr. Brenda Martinez is the proud wife of retired Sergeant First Class Johnnie Martinez, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a mother of two high school students, Noah (a junior) and Nojemi (a senior).

PRINCIPAL:

Cheyenne Cook was named as the Pre-K thru 12^th grade principal for the district. She has been at Evant ISD as the Secondary English Teacher for two years. Prior to that, Cook was the Secondary English Teacher at Bluff Dale ISD. She recently completed her seventh year in public education. Her work includes serving students in the elementary and secondary education in rural school districts. She has served as a High School UIL Coordinator, taught K-12 gifted and talented students, and sponsored student organizations such as Student Council and National Honor Society.

Her educational leadership background includes a Master of Education in Educational Administration with Principal Certification, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Instructional design and Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts in English all from Tarleton State University. Cook is currently enrolled at Tarleton in the Doctorate program pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Administration with Superintendent Certification. She is also a member of administrative and leadership associations.

Cook is the proud dog mom of two Miniature Schnauzers and an Australian Shepherd.

SCHOOL COORDINATOR:

Dr. Claudia Canales was named as the Effective School’s Coordinator for the district. She is the former Response to Intervention Specialist for Evant ISD. Within her role, Dr. Canales also served as an Instructional Coach for elementary educators and began the process to ensure that the school’s curriculum is vertically aligned and designed to target all learning standards. Dr. Canales has over ten years of teaching experience and curriculum development specializing in assessment and data analysis in both primary and secondary grade levels.

Dr. Canales has a diversified academic background that includes a Doctorate in Education in Curriculum and Instruction, a Post-Master’s Certification in Leadership and Accountability, and a Master’s of Science in Psychology specializing in child and adolescent development from Capella University and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Canales is a member of The National Honor Society of Leadership and Success.

She is the proud wife of Lieutenant Luis Canales, a State Park Police Officer, and a proud mother of a high-spirited first grader, Luis Jr.
