GISD student spotlight Journey Garrett

Posted

Compassion and encouragement are two things that stand out about Gatesville Junior High student Journey Garrett, who was recognized by the Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees during a Student Spotlight presentation on Dec. 13.

"We're very proud of her," GISD Superintendent Barrett Pollard said. "She is a wonderful, caring person who makes others feel welcome. She is an all-around great student and young lady and her teachers had some great things to say about her."

Math teacher Lauren Wise said that Journey "works hard both in and out of the classroom and with a great attitude. I wish I had 20 more just like her."

Social studies teacher Stacy Kyle-Romel described Journey as "a wonderful young lady (who) is always polite. She is always trying to make sure she is caught up with her work and sometimes (is) even ahead of time."

Language arts teacher Leigh Schwope said Journey "is a hard worker and is also very thoughtful and kind to those around her. She asked me one day if she could write daily quotes on my board. Her quotes are very inspiring and the class really enjoys them. Her personal narrative was a very entertaining story about her cow, Milky Way, that kept us smiling and laughing. Journey is truly one of a kind, and I know she has a bright future ahead."

Principal Suzy Penrod said Journey goes above and beyond to reach out to help make others comfortable.

"When we have new students who have no idea where to sit in the cafeteria, Journey is one of those students who will welcome the new students and invite them to sit with her. She is trustworthy and has a kind and caring heart, Journey is a pleasure to have on campus."
