GISD staff spotlight Cole & Hitt

Posted

Making a difference in people's lives, whether students or their families, is a daily mission for Joyce Cole and Christa Hitt, who are social workers for the Gatesville Independent School District.

Cole and Hitt were recently recognized during the Staff Spotlight presentation by the GISD Board of Trustees.

"During a family crisis or emergency, they help our students and their families with resources and support," GISD Superintendent Barrett Pollard said. "If a student loses a parent or they become homeless, Joyce and Christa are on the front lines of helping our students. In cases of abuse or neglect, Christa and Joyce try to help our students through those traumatic incidents. Mrs. Hitt and Mrs. Cole become very familiar with the needs of our students and their families and try to help as much as possible.

"As you could see at our WINGS graduation, they are often very successful at helping students who may be 'at-risk' of not graduating from high school. While they are very compassionate and patient with students as they battle through different hardships, they also have high expectations and want students to rise to the occasion."
