COVID-19 surge forces temporary closure of GISD
Gatesville Independent School District, in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19, decided to declare Thursday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 13 as student and staff holidays. Monday, Nov. 16, will be a virtual learning day for students and staff. All are required to work from home. No school-related extra-curricular activities will be allowed during the five-day break.
All campuses, offices and facilities will remain closed until Tuesday, Nov. 17, when both students and staff (who are not quarantined) will return to campus for regular in-person instruction.
“The decision to take a five-day break from the campuses really started formulating Monday evening and into Tuesday morning after so many new positive cases had been reported,” said GISD Superintendent, Dr. Barrett Pollard. He continued, “The contact tracing process was resulting in the quarantine of many additional students and teachers to the point that it was going to be difficult to even conduct school...primarily at the secondary level.”
