Courthouse protest questions bail amounts in sex trafficking case

Posted

Protesters gathered outside the Coryell County Courthouse and the Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon were unhappy with the bail amounts set for suspects in a sex trafficking case.

Bond amounts were set between $1M-$2M.

As of early this week, six of the eight suspects were still in jail.

Signs carried by protesters included messages such as, “Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere,” “Liberty and justice for Y’ALL” and “Million dollars, really?”

Carl Ford, one of the suspects, is currently serving another sentence in a state jail. Another suspect, Fernando Torres, who is only charged with possession of a controlled substance under 1 gram, has since been released on a bond of $5,000.
