County hosts town hall meetings to educate about proposed jail facility
Two town hall meetings were hosted this week to inform community members about the proposed $30.9 million jail facility and the May 1 Bond Election to decide the fate of the project.
On Tuesday, community members in Gatesville heard from County Judge Roger Miller and Sheriff Scott Williams, as well as the county-selected architect Jeff Heffelfinger, construction manager at-risk Eric Cohen and financial advisor Vince Viall.
A second community meeting was held Thursday in Copperas Cove to reach voters on the south-side of the county.
The two-hour meetings were held to educate community members about the county’s current jail situation, the Bond Election process and, if passed, the bond’s effect on ad valorem taxes, which would be used to pay the debt service to construct a new jail facility.
