Coryell Museum memorial plaque

Posted

The Coryell Museum and Historical Center recently placed a plaque in the museum’s garden area in memory of Carol and Nell Zeigler, who contributed countless hours to the museum. When they planned to move from their from their home on Coryell Creek, Nell contacted the museum about taking some of her plants for the museum’s garden.  “She donated a lot of irises and daylilies of her own,” said board member Hal Davidson, who is now in charge of maintaining the garden.

Nell Zeigler was an accomplished Master Gardener and a lifetime member the State Garden Clubs, Inc. and National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc.  In addition, she taught Master Gardener classes at Texas A&M University and was instrumental to the development and continuation of the Landscape Design Study Course series of the Landscape Design School in the Bryan/College Station area.

“They were good people and well respected. She did a lot of work at the museum even when she was older and in a wheelchair, but she was independent and didn’t want assistance,” Davidson said. Nell and her husband Carol have described as being very “giving individuals” and, since they didn’t have any children, they devoted their time to the Gatesville community including the Boys & Girls Club and the Coryell Museum.
