Coryell County named disaster area after floods
Coryell County has received the offi cial notification that it has been declared a disaster area as a result of flooding that occurred in October of last year. Bob Harrell, the county’s emergency management coordinator, received the notice last week.
By receiving the Presidential Disaster Declaration, the county will now be eligible to receive funds to begin work on making necessary repairs to restore the damaged areas to their existing condition prior to the flood event.
Gatesville’s Faunt Le Roy Park, as reported in the Feb. 23 edition of The Messenger, suffered the most damage within the county. The city closed the park in October due to major erosion to the road within park boundaries. The park was recently reopened but the park loop remains closed to vehicles.
Cost estimates amount to $150,000 to $250,000 to restore the road within the park.
