Morris Federation enjoys Christmas luncheon and program

Posted

Members of the Morris Federation met at Prima Pasta Italian Restaurant on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 11:30 a.m. Before dining, they enjoyed a program presented by Craig Pender, a former chaplain at TDC. He attends Live Oak Baptist Church where he is in the choir and also serves as a “fill-in” preacher when needed. He formerly led a group called “The Singing Sixties,” which performed at various places such as rest homes and retirement centers. However, efforts to contain the spread of COVID have made it very difficult to find venues. He is also a talented artist and a member of the Art League.

Mr. Pender accompanied himself on the guitar and led members in singing a number of popular Christmas carols. One interesting song came after singing “Joy to the World,” when he led the group in singing “Amazing Grace” to the tune of “Joy to the World” – an interesting version, but it worked quite well, and everyone learned something new. He closed his program with “God Bless America” as his final song, followed by prayer.

Members of the Federation also brought a collection of stocking stuffers and toys to donate to the Care Center for children’s Christmas. This has become one of the organization’s yearly projects.
