Commissioners approve grants
Coryell County Commissioners approved several grants and donations during their Monday morning Commissioners Court meeting.
After considering and accepting bids for crushed rock, the hauling of road base, paving aggregate and paving oil products to open the meeting, Commissioners approved grants benefitting crime victims and indigent defense in the county.
The Victims of Crime Act grant application covers funding for crime victims’ assistance through the District Attorney’s Office.
VOCA grants are a protected and dedicated source of funding for crime victim programs. Funding for the grants comes from fines and penalties levied on offenders at the federal level.
Crime Victims Assistance helps victims of violent crimes through educating them about heir rights and Crime Victims’ Compensation benefits, offering referrals to resources and helping them understand and navigate the judicial system.
