City approves school officers
The Gatesville City Council, in a unanimous decision, voted to proceed with amending the existing interlocal agreement with the Gatesville Independent School District to provide for the hiring of four additional School Resource Officers (SRO).
The Resource Officers will be employed by the City as part of the police department with the majority of the cost for the additional staff borne by the school district through reimbursement to the City. The costs of additional SROs would be divided between the school district and city with the school responsible for costs based on 37 weeks per year and the city’s share for 15 weeks. The school board voted Feb. 18 to enter in the agreement with the City. The current agreement between the city and school provides for one officer who is assigned to the school district’s fi ve campuses. The amended agreement will provide four additional officers, one for each campus.
The city council discussed the proposed amendment during the council’s March 12 meeting. City Manager Bill Parry told the council that he would provide them with a detailed financial analysis of the City’s share for the costs for the additional officers.
