City adds to heavy equipment fl eet
The Gatesville City Council voted to add another item to its heavy equipment maintenance fl eet during Tuesday night’s city council meeting. The council voted to lease a new wheeled excavator from Holt Caterpillar of Waco to replace, what is believed to be, a 1998 model tracked excavator.
According to City Manager Bill Parry, the wheeled excavator is not only over 20 years newer, but is also a much more versatile piece of equipment.
Since the current excavator is tracked, only the water treatment plant uses the excavator to clean sludge from the plant’s three lagoons and the cleaning process occurs only about three times a year.
The wheeled excavator can be shared among other city departments citing the task of cleaning the city’s drainage ditches as an example to sharing the equipment. The excavator also has a vertical arm feature that can be used for brush clearing.
