Citizens attend city’s second public hearing
The city council held their second public hearing on the proposal to set a tax rate of $0.5600 per $100 of taxable value at a special session held on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Seven citizens attended. Sonya Barron inquired as to whether the additional revenue from the increased tax rate would be used to bring the city’s infrastructure from the “early twentieth century into the twenty-fi rst century?” She also asked about where the revenue from the city’s involvement in the energy savings program would be spent. City Manager Bill Parry responded that the energy savings, as well as the tax rate increase revenue, would be used for a small fund balance and the repairs of infrastructure. Parry then gave a brief recap presentation on how the tax revenue could be spent prioritizing several items for the council’s consideration.
