CBP warns of new telephone scam
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is warning residents of a new telephone scam nationwide. Callers are posing as U.S. Border Patrol agents and CBP officers in an attempt to gain access to residents’ banking information.
According to reports, the call includes a pre-recorded message stating, “A box of drugs and money being shipped has your [resident’s name] name on it, and it has been intercepted.” The call then instructs the user to press “1” to speak with a CBP officer or agent where their banking information is then requested.
Unfortunately, residents in Coryell County have already reported receiving these calls and said the number comes with a “254” area code, making the call seem less suspicious.
