sion, purchase, consumption and receipt of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and tobacco products is now illegal for an individual under 21 years of age.

842 Texas laws began Sept. 1

The 86th session of the Texas Legislature yielded 842 new laws which went into effect on Sept. 1. While all the laws are important, not all of them will directly affect the average daily life of most Coryell County residents.

Gatesville Police Chief Nathan Gohlke noted two new laws that may have a direct and immediate effect on citizens - SB 21 and HB 2048.

A summary of these two laws are as follows:

SB 21 - The distribution, posses-Prior to this law, the minimum age was under 18 years of age. There is one exception to this law. Cigarettes are not illegal for individuals who are 18 years old and present at the time of purchase a valid military identification card of the United States military forces or the state military forces.
