Volunteers beautify downtown Gatesville

Posted

Keep Gatesville Beautiful, a community organization designed to educate and engage its citizens to take responsibility for a cleaner, more beautiful community, hosted a Day of Service event on Sept. 10 in downtown Gatesville.

Volunteers met at the Gatesville Library and chose from different projects such as cleaning up downtown curbs and sidewalks, refurbishing picnic tables in parks, and picking up litter on streets and roadways. Several community members came together for the “Fall Sweep” Day of Service event.

The Hornet varsity baseball team, led by head coach Chase Smith, and The Prospects select baseball team spent their Saturday morning picking up trash, sweeping sidewalks, and cleaning up downtown Gatesville as a way of saying thank you and giving back to the community that has shown them so much support to the baseball players and program.

GHS baseball members Ethan Jones, Seth Finley, Antonio Osorio, William Crozier, Bralen Veazey, Ben Mabry, Breydan Mills and Chad Ortiz participated in the event.

Hornets coach Smith said, “We always enjoy giving back to our community who supports us and all the other athletic programs in Gatesville. When we heard this community service event was looking for volunteers, we jumped at the opportunity to be part of it and lend a helping hand to Keep Gatesville Beautiful…. We plan on participating in events like these once a month.”

Leaders of the Keep Gatesville Beautiful hope everyone who is downtown Sept. 17 for Spurfest, Cruzin Cruzers Car Show and Gatesville Old Time Fiddlers Contest will enjoy and appreciate the clean streets and sidewalks.
