Items for the Labor Day Sunday Scholarship Silent Auction and Fish Fry on Sept. 4 will be out and ready for bidding in the dining room on Aug. 21 at the Pearl Church of Christ. All proceeds from this auction benefit the scholarship fund for local and His Kids students. Everyone is invited to attend.

The next Pearl Bluegrass event will be Sept. 10. September is the only month that the Bluegrass event happens on the second Saturday of the month instead of the first Saturday. The Pearl Cottage Bookstore will also be open that day, too. Hope you come and bring friends!

Connie Long is asking that the communities (Pearl, Evant, and the surrounding areas) meet at the Evant School at the Prayer Tree every second Friday at 7:20 a.m. to pray for the school. All are invited to come and pray.

The Pearl Baptist Church is now accepting donations for a silent auction to benefit the Evant Fire Department. All proceeds go to the EFD. The festival will be held on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be games for young and old, the silent auction, music, and food. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Pearl Community Center Flea Market will be held on Oct. 14-15, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each of those days. Booths may be set up prior to the event on Oct. 13. More information coming soon.

The Pearl Church of Christ will celebrate its 127th birthday on Oct. 16. The church service begins at 10:30 a.m. with a catered dinner on the grounds to follow. All are invited to attend.

Unfortunately, I reported some false news in last week’s edition of the Pearl News. Linda Ray’s people got in touch with my people, and they were quite upset. It seems that I SHOULD have reported that Linda ONLY uses the microwave to cook IF the instructions are to cook the item three minutes or less. Ninety seconds is preferable. I humbly apologize to Linda and her people for the misinformation. I will definitely check out my sources and verify for the truth in future writings about Linda Ray’s cooking skills… what there is of them, that is. (So grateful for her plethora of other talents, though!)

You may have noticed that I don’t have any current stories about the itsy bitsy, teeny tiny, turquoise greeny, stringy bikini lately. That is because it’s too dang hot for the miscreant, mischievous, mass of material to be out and about in this over-the-top summer heat. However, if you are missing it, stop by the Pearl Book Cottage on Sept. 10 to view the awful atrocity—and do a little shopping while you’re there. All proceeds go toward local charities, and you’ll have fun with the friendly, funny, and fabulous personnel to boot.

This week’s Bible verses: “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:40b NIV; “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good words, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV (No wonder we feel so joyful when we are doing what God has prepared for us to do!)
